Maya News Updates 2011, No. 19: Duisburg, Germany - The Exhibit "Faszination Keramik. Die Maya und Teotihuacan" Open Until July 17, 2011
On February 20, 2011, the exhibit "Faszination Keramik. Die Maya und Teotihuacan/Fascination Ceramics: Maya and Teotihuacan" opened at the city museum, Duisburg, Germany. The exhibit shows part of the collection of Kurt Sandweg (1928-2008), to which are added objects from the BASA research collection of Bonn University and the Chocolate Museum in Cologne. Shown are plates and vessels of Maya and Teotihuacan origin, as well as ceramic objects with a Zapotec and Mixtec origin. Aditionally the process of cacao harvest and chocolate production is shown in a separate show case. Excerpts from the 2006 documentary "Who Killed The Maya" are projected in a continuous loop. The exhibit is shown at the museum until July 17, 2011, and I had the pleasure visiting it on April 17, 2011. The KULTUR- UND STADTHISTORISCHES MUSEUM DUISBURG is located at the Johannes-Corputius-Platz 1. The museum is open Tuesday-Thursday & Saturday from 10.00 to 17.00, Friday 10.00-14.00, and Sunday 10.00-18.00. Mondays closed. General admittance to the museum: €.3,00. Here I post some of the pictures I have taken at the exhibit:

A flyer with information on the exhibit in both German and English can be downloaded here (as long as the link is valid; last checked: June 7, 2011).
